The PR AGEP Program at Río Piedras just started last July 5th, 2006
the 7th Summer TA and Mentoring
Training and Bridging Seminars
with a welcome activity in which the DIrector of PR AGEP (Dr. Manuel Gómez), the Dean of Natural Sciences (Dr. Brad R. Weiner), In Rio Piedras we have approximately 52 new students and 37 peer mentors from
the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics participating in this
program. PR-AGEP at Rio Piedras campus offers a 2 and a half weeks of a series of activities
focusing on: basic academic and non academic services, TA techniques
and group discussion regarding motivation and self-esteem; also, the
mentoring participants, besides the mentoring workshops, a required
to attend TA laboratory practices and discussions, various seminars
and social and recreational activities together with the new students. Mayaguez will be offering the Summer Bridging Seminar and Metoring Training starting on July 18th.

Dr. Bement, Director of NSF, visits the RCSE at Río Piedras and Mayagüez Campus

As part of his trip to Puerto Rico to participate in the AGEP-Retreat in January 26-28, 2006, Dr. Bement (Director of the National Science Foundation, NSF) visit with PhD fellows (AGEP, NSF-EPSCoR and LSAMP) and researchers at the Río Piedras and Mayagüez Campus, and the Arecibo Observatory. Dr. Bement had the opportunity to visit laboratories, talk to PhD students and Researchers. This visit served as a mean for each institutional research representative to provide Dr. Bement with relevant information regarding research infrastructure development, outstanding students and researchers stories and outcomes, and future plans.
